"Romeo and Juliet" Sergey Prokofiev (Ballet in three acts) Kasatkina and Vasilyov State Academic Classical Ballet Theatre (Moscow Classical Ballet)

Credits

Spicy humor and the utmost frankness from an interlinear translation of Shakespeare's masterpiece: you will laugh and cry!

Even the lines of minor characters are resolved in the dance: in their version of Romeo and Juliet, Natalia Kasatkina and Vladimir Vasilev abandoned the pantomime traditional for this ballet.

The struggle between the Capulets and the Montagues is like the displacement of the Gothic by the emerging Renaissance - both in large-scale scenery and in the movements of the dancers, which form recognizable images of architecture.

Romeo and Juliet is a ballet by Sergei Prokofiev based on William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet. It is one of the most enduringly popular ballets. Music from the ballet was extracted by Prokofiev as three suites for orchestra and as a piano work.
