Of the musical and dramatic works of E. Grieg, his music for Henrik Ibsen's drama "Peer Gynt" is especially widely known. Ibsen showed the whole world the beauty of the harsh northern nature, the heroism of ancient Norwegian legends, which inhabited the forests and valleys with many fabulous creatures: trolls, gnomes, fairies, sometimes hostile, sometimes friendly to people.
The plot is based on a story about the adventures of a peasant boy, a merry fellow and an entertainer Peer Gynt, who chose a dangerous principle in life - to be pleased with himself. Two women who love Peer Gynt - mother Ase and young Solveig - spent their whole lives waiting, and Peer Gynt in wanderings and adventures. And only when he is older, he analyzes his life and realizes the mistakes.
