| Nikolay SokolovConductorNikolay Sokolov is a conductor of the Novaya Opera Theatre. He graduated from the Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory with a degree in military conducting (Honoured Artist of Ukraine Umantsa’s class). In 2002, he studied symphonic and operatic conducting with Maestro Kolobov at the post-graduate department of the Urals State Conservatory. Since 1993, Nikolay Sokolov has been a conductor of the Tumen Symphony Orchestra. In 1999, the orchestra won a prize at the International Festival of Symphony Orchestras and Brass Bands in Lyons (France). In 2001, Nikolay Sokolov was awarded with a Muravlenko prize. Since 2002, Nikolay Sokolov has been head and conductor of the Central Military Band of the RF Defence Ministry. With the orchestra he prepared concert programmes featuring Julio Carreras, Maria Gulegina, Valery Kovtun, Rinat Ibragimov, Tamara Gverdtseteli. He cooperates with such composers as Agafonnikov, Pakhmutova, Morozov, Khrennikov, to mention a few. He helped preparing and conducted anniversary concerts of modern composers such as Bogatyrev, Ledenev, Salnikov, Khachaturyan in the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, and Ejges in the Gnesins Academy. In December 2002, he conducted his first production of Botyarov’s “Lesnyanka and April” in the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory. With the orchestra, he has taken part in the traditional Easter Festival, the Christmas Cinematography Festival, the Moscow Autumn Festival of Modern Music, concert seasons “Musical Gallery” and many others. Nikolay Sokolov, jointly with the Central Military Band of the RF Defence Ministry, takes part in cultural, social and political events of Moscow in the Grand Kremlin Palace, the Moscow International Music House, the Grand Hall of the Moscow Conservatory, the Theatre of the Soviet Army and many others. He conducts works of classical and modern composers, such as Agafonnikov, Diev, Kikta, Nikolaev, Samonov, Khalilov, Chudova and others. In 2006, he performed on tour with Central Military Band of the RF Defence Ministry in the Democratic People‘s Republic of Korea. Nikolay Sokolov is a lieutenant colonel. Nikolay Sokolov joined the Novaya Opera Theatre in 2004. He has acted as a music director and conductor of Valdgardt’s The Cat’s House. He participated in the staging of Glinka’s Ruslan and Lyudmila, Mozart’s Die Zauberflцte, and Verdi’s Nabucco. | |
