The Bolshoi keeps on celebrating the great Russian composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky's 175th anniversary. Tonight "The Queen of Spades" opera premieres on the Historical stage.
The story of passion and madness told by Alexander Pushkin got its new sound 17 years ago with Lev Dodin's direction for Opéra national de Paris. Since then the staging had success on different European stages and finally made it to The Bolshoi. The director promises that rather than simply repeating the Paris version, the Moscow one will be given a new lease of life.
The first series of premiere performances are on 27 February and l, 3, and 5 March. And there will be further performances on 15, 17 and 19 May.
