Svetlana Zakharova will organize a charity concert; all funds raised will be donated to the renovation of the Kiev School of Choreography. The concert will take place at the Bolshoi Theatre on December 7th. The event will be organized following the initiative of the ballerina and the Bolshoi Theatre's soloist Yuri Baranov.
The idea to organize this concert belongs to Svetlana Zakharova and the Bolshoi Theatre's soloist Yuri Baranov. Zakharova: "I got the idea to help the Kiev School of Choreography right after I had gone to Kiev on tour and visited my native school. As it turned out, nothing had been changed in the building for many years". The ballerina added that the institution needed an urgent reconstruction. The School was built 76 year ago. The concert will star such masters of the world ballet, as Sergei Polunin, Leonid Sarafanov, Denis Matvienko, Alexander Zhembrovskyy, Ivan Putrov, Iana Salenko, Alina Cojocaru, Nina Zmievets and Alexander Ryabko. The artists will present fragments from the famous ballet productions.
Svetlana Zakharova is a People's Artist of Russia and the Bolshoi Theatre's prima ballerina. In 1989, she entered the Kiev Choreographic School, where she studied for six years. In 1996 she joined the Mariinsky Theatre ballet company, in 2003 - the Bolshoi Ballet. Five years later the ballerina received the title of La Scala Ballet etoile. Zakharova has performed in various European capitals, as well as in Tokyo and in New York. In 2005 the ballerina was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Russian Federation; in 2008 she was awarded the title of People's Artist of the Russian Federation.
