The series of events marking the bicentennial of Mikhail Lermontov's birth closed at the Bolshoi Theatre on October 15thThe program of the concert that took place on the Bolshoi's Historic Stage included world premieres, inspired by the great Russian poet's works. The concert at the Bolshoi Theatre became the culmination of the celebration and the closing event. Yuri Laptev, the director of the concert and People's Artist of Russia, considers that "it was M.Y.Lermontov's unique creative work that had a great impact on the development of culture not only in Russia, but also around the world; it influenced almost all cultural forms and genres". He said: "We decided not to follow the traditional format of a jubilee gala. The audience will be presented with the artistic synthesis of classical choreography and cinematography, as well as modern audiovisual effects". The program that was performed at the Bolshoi had 23 pieces of music. The Bolshoi Theatre Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Honored Artist of Russia, Alexander Titov, the A. V. Sveshnikov State Academic Russian Choir, the Pyatnitsky Russian Folk Chorus, Z. Paliashvili Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theatre's Georgian Folk Song Ensemble of soloists and Children's Choir of the Rimsky-Korsakov Saint Petersburg State Conservatory school-studio took part in the concert. The concert also starred the Bolshoi Opera soloists (the People's Artist of Russia Alexander Naumenko, laureates of international competitions Yulia Mazurova and Alexander Roslavets), the Mariinsky Opera and Ballet Theatre soloists (the Honored Artist of Russia Akhmed Agadi, laureates of international competitions Edem Umerov, Zlata Bulycheva and Lyudmila Dudinova), and Moscow State Philharmonic Hall soloists (the Honored Artist of Russia Lyudmila Golub and the laureate of international competitions Ekaterina Mechetina).
