Urin said: "I think, this is due not only to the political situation. As The Washington Post mentions, this will be the first time the company has come to Washington, D.C. after the turmoil it has experienced recently. Besides, the production will star David Hallberg, the ABT premier, who became a Bolshoi Theatre premier three years ago. The American audience is eager to see their fellow country-man perform together

with the Moscow company". Mr. Urin said that on the opening night - May 20 - the production of "Giselle" will star Svetlana Zakharova and David Hallberg. Other casts star Anna Nikulina, Ekaterina Krysanova, Artem Ovcharenko and Ruslan Skvortsov.

The company will perform '"Giselle" seven times. The tour will close on May 25. However, the Bolshoi Theatre guest performances in the US will continue. The Bolshoi Theatre General Director concluded: "In July we will take three ballet productions - "Swan Lake", "Don Quixote" and "Spartacus" - and the concert version of the opera "The Tsar's Bride" to New York". The Bolshoi Theatre opens its US tour with the ballet "Giselle" /…/ The Bolshoi Ballet has gone on tour to W ashington, D.C. As the company's artistic director Sergei Filin told RIA Novosti, they have taken there the ballet "Giselle" - a classical production and one of the most popular romantic ballets. According to Mr. Filin, the Bolshoi Ballet presents its productions in Washington, D.C. regularly. This year the dancers brought to the American capital only one ballet - "Giselle" choreographed by Yuri Grigorovich, who confirmed the casts himself. The opening night cast stars the Bolshoi Theatre's prima Svetlana Zakharova and the company's leading soloist David Hallberg. Sergei Filin said: "I am very happy with the fact that David, a talented American dancer, will represent the Russian theatre in Washington, D.C. In my opinion, this is a wonderful story, especially given the current circumstances". Mr. Filin also mentioned that in July the Bolshoi Ballet would come to the USA again. The company will bring to New York "Swan Lake", "Don Quixote" and "Spartacus". He said: "All our arrangements, concerning both the dates and the repertoire, remain in force". He also added that tickets to performances of "Giselle" were almost sold out. The artistic director mentioned that the casts starred the Bolshoi Ballet leading artists: Anna Nikulina, Ekaternia Krysanova, Artem Ovcharenko and Ruslan Skvortsov. Mr. Filin said that no special version of "Giselle" was created, and the American audience would see the same production that is performed in Moscow. RIA Novosti. Ilya Pitalev

As for the New York tour, which will last till July 28, the Bolshoi Theatre will bring there its ballet and opera companies, the orchestra and the choir. Besides three ballet productions the audience will have a chance to see the concert version of the opera "The Tsar's Bride" by N. Rimsky-Korsakov. The Bolshoi Theatre will open the coming season with "The Maid of Orleans" and "The Queen of Spades" Even though the touring schedule is tight and there are several more premieres coming up this season, the Bolshoi has already started working on productions for the next season. The Bolshoi Theatre shared its plans for the coming season. There will be six new opera productions and three ballet productions. Even though the touring schedule is tight and there are several more premieres coming up this season, the Bolshoi has already started working on productions for the next season. The Bolshoi's recently appointed chief conductor Tugan Sokhiev will conduct two opera productions himself. "The Maid of Orleans" by P. Tchaikovsky will be the first premiere of the coming season. The audience will be presented with the concert version of the opera; there will be only two performances. Tugan Sokhiev is already rehearsing this opera. He comes to the theatre even at the weekends. He is aiming for the ideal sound - something that depends not only on musicians, but also on the Bolshoi Historic Stage. In order for all members of the audience to hear "The Maid of Orleans" equally well, the conductor moves the orchestra from place to place and even threatens to lower one of the orchestra pit walls. The Bolshoi Theater chief conductor Tugan Sokhiev said: "During the reconstruction there was a lot of technical work done; some parameters of the orchestra pit were restored and it was made wider. This brought some acoustic effects, and not all of those effects are positive ones. This is why we are now trying to experiment with those technical facilities that we were provided with after the reconstruction. We are trying to improve the acoustics where we need it; we are also trying to experiment when it comes to the position of the orchestra". "The Queen of Spades", another opera by Tchaikovsky, will be another long-awaited premiere. A drama director Lev Dodin, who has just received "The Golden Mask" A ward, was invited to stage the opera at the Bolshoi Theatre. Mikhail Yurovsky will conduct the orchestra. Another famous director, the artistic director of the Pushkin Theatre Evgeny Pisarev, together with the British conductor William Lacey, will stage the opera "Le Nozze di Figaro" by Mozart. The repertoire will also include "Rigoletto" by Verdi, "Carmen" by Bizet and one opera for children - "The Story of Kai and Gerda" by Sergei Banevich. The Bolshoi Theatre General Director Vladimir Urin said that changes will be made to the whole opera repertoire of the theatre. Many productions will disappear from it. Vladimir Urin mentioned: "Unfortunately, a lot of productions in the current repertoire do not correspond with the musical level (and I am now talking about opera productions) that should exist at the Bolshoi Theatre today. I have an exact list of such opera productions". The Bolshoi Ballet will present "Hamlet", choreographed by Radu Poklitaru (originally from Moldova). Maestro Yuri Grigorovich will revive his "Legend of Love"; the young choreographer Yuri Posokhov, together with Kirill Serebrennikov, the "Gogol-Center" artistic director, will stage "A Hero of Our Time" on the Bolshoi New Stage - this venue is open for experiments. In brief Nureyev festival: a rather well-groomed "Giselle" The audience of the 27 Rudolf Nureyev International Ballet Festival, which is being organized in Kazan, were presented with the production of "Giselle". The cast starred Svetlana Zakharova and Sergei Polunin; last year this duet became the sensation of the Moscow ballet season. The famous ballet critic Anna Galaida, who was invited by "Business Online" to the Nureyev Festival, writes about this piece; the audience in Kazan was presented with the most standard of all existing versions. Until just recently it was impossible to picture Svetlana Zakharova, who is called the face of the Bolshoi Theatre, and Sergei Polunin, this world ballet star, who has become world famous so quickly, at the Theatre named after Mussa Djalil. This is not because dancers from capitals are particularly snobbish. Ulyana Lopatkina and Diana Vishneva have been dancing in Kazan lately; Svetlana Zakharova also used to come here in the beginning of her star career. However, this Bolshoi prima is famous for being meticulous when it comes to her own performances, her partners and stage; therefore, she mainly focuses on working at her native theatres - La Scala in Milan, where she was awarded the unique title of toile - and the Paris Opera, which the ballerina has had great relationship, based on mutual love, for more than 10 years. Sergei Polunin is from a completely different galaxy; he is ready to dance every day and he hates rehearsals, therefore, he can easily perform in three different places in the world over three days. He then can disappear right before his European premiere, which has been widely announced, or his debut at a prestigious festival. The ballerina, who is a symbol of responsibility, and the dancer, this "enfant terrible" of modern ballet, first met a year ago. Zakharova was dreaming about including "Marguerite and Armand", a legendary ballet of the British classic choreographer Frederick Ashton, which he created for Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev, into her repertoire. Polunin, who used to be the British Royal Ballet premier, helped her to feel the unusual British ballet style. When this production was shown in Moscow, the city exploded: ballet fans described lust and the impeccable harmony of Giselle and Albrecht in such a passionate way, that the idea of Fonteyn-Nureyev or Maximova- V asiliev partnership's reincarnation did not seem profane. /…/

Zakharova and Polunin dance "Giselle" not like an epic novel, but rather like a poem, where nothing disturbs the main topic. Naturally, this main topic is love; however, it is dif ficult to decide, whether it is the love of Giselle and Albrecht, which is three times stronger because of the fatal impossibility of their union, or love for classical dance. Zakharova and Polunin are a pair that represents ideal beauty. The ballerina astonished everyone when she made her debut in the ballet "Giselle" at the age of 17. She amazed the audience with the expressionist force of her feelings in the first act; during all those years to come she gradually discarded many bright details, studied the degree of emotion and made her lines plainer. Today, when her Giselle comes to Albrecht, who is calling her, in the second act, she keeps her eyes down, her face does not move, and after the combination of several session-assemble, contrary to the inertial force that pushes her forward, she freezes in an arabesque for several seconds. Zakharova manages to create a marvelous effect - we can almost see that at this moment, which contradicts all classical laws of physics, an immortal soul leaves a material body. Her 24-year old partner is still more interested in exploring the opposite - he continues to increase the tension, and the endless combination of entrechat sept remind one of "The Scream" by E. Munch. But this time Zakharova and Polunin turned out to be in harmony at the point where the classical dance is impeccable and, therefore, almighty. Their striving for partnership guarantees that we will discover a lot of new things in the old ballet.
