The Bolshoi Theatre prima-ballerina Svetlana Zakharova has just returned from Sochi, where she participated in the Olympic Games' cultural program. A little over a month ago this prima assoluta (this is the Italian title for ballet stars) conquered Milan, where she danced not in a regular performance, but at the ballet season opening at Teatro alla Scalla, having performed two title roles in ballets of Alexei Ratmansky, which premiered there. At the Paris Opera she performed her signature part of Aurora, starring in Rudolph Nureyev's most difficult edition of the ballet "Sleeping Beauty". In a month Svetlana will make her long-awaited debut in the ballet "La Dame aux Camellias", choreographed by John Neumeier, at the Bolshoi Theatre. How is it possible to have such an unbelievably busy schedule and to combine work with family life, bringing up a daughter, and creative plans of her husband, the famous violinist Vadim Repin?

- Different festivals and our impresario friends have long invited us to perform in the same concert or to appear on stage together in some other kind of a musical performance. But we have never really considered this idea, because we realized that we would hardly be able to find time that would suit us both. But then our friends from the Swiss city St. Prex organized a nice summer music festival, St. Prex РЎlassics; they invited us again to participate and we saw that at the end of August we both had vacations, so we decided to agree.

- No, we were onstage together. Vadim played and I danced. This was a unique concert; there also was a chamber orchestra on stage, they played ancient instruments. Of course, there were my partners as well. Our first joined experience was a great success. The audience gave us a standing ovation. I would say that we managed to realize the idea of a dialogue between movement and music.

- We have already planned our joined performance; it will be a part of the first Trans-
Siberian Art Festival that Vadim is head of. The Festival will take place in Novosibirsk
from March 31 till April 12. Our joined concert "Pas de deux on toes and fingers" will Newsletter take place on April 10 at the Novosibirsk Philharmonic New Hall. Such world famous conductors and soloists as Valery Gergiev, Kent Nagano, Olga Borodina and Nikolai Lugansky will take part in the Festival. At the moment Novosibirsk is looking forward to a great event.

- Good concerts that I go to really enrich my life and make it more interesting. Last

- I am interested in this; sure, I work at the Bolshoi. This is my home. But it is true that I do not live for these conversations, gossip and rows. I have neither desire nor time to discuss it. My job and my family, new projects and tours around the world are in the first place. People talk about such things, discuss them, make scenes and gossip; things come and go. Only the real things stay: human relations, your family and your job. I want to be as close to these real things as possible.

As "Kommersant" was informed, starting September 2016 Mr. LiЕЎka will be head of a ballet school in Munich. It is interesting that last autumn in a non-official talk with a "Kommersant" reporter he denied that appointment of Igor Zelensky was possible; Newsletter Digest has been compiled by The Bolshoi Theatre Press Office

The New York Times critic Gia Kourlas reviews the Sochi Winter Olympics ice skating competition as a performance rather than sport and says: "the exquisite 15-year-old Russian Yulia Lipnitskaya. She has it all: extension, deep plié - especially after she lands a jump - agility and theater." The reviewer says Lipnitskaya was one of few to perform with dramatic flair.
The Daily Telegraph (UK) interviews former ballet star Wayne Sleep about travel. He says the next place he wants to go to is Russia because he was inspired by dancing with the Bolshoi Ballet when he was a teenager.
The sports publication Dead spin writes about training of ice skaters and says that American trainer Frank Carol employs a Bolshoi-trained ballet coach to help his students develop grace and style.
The Hamilton Spectator (USA) writes about the Sochi Winter Olympics saying that Russians Elena Ilinykh and Nikita Katasalapov, who took third in the free dance ice skating with their interpretation of Swan Lake turned the arena into the Bolshoi Theatre, were utterly balletic and seamless. The writer thinks this pair will be the next big ice skating stars.
We have published an announcement on the Bolshoi Theatre official pages in the social networks:
On February 25th-28th the Bolshoi Theatre will present the productions that have been nominated for "The Golden Mask" Russian National Theatre Award in "Contemporary Dance" section
Both of these dance performances premiered during the festival that was organized by the Bolshoi Theatre to mark the 100th anniversary of the ballet's "The Rite of Spring" first production. Leading ballet companies of the world performed the famous "Kvartira" by Mats Ek with great enthusiasm. The Bolshoi Ballet was not an exception. The company presented this ballet together with its own audacious experiment, "The Rite of Spring" by Tatiana Baganova, who is one of the leading modern dance choreographers in Russia.International press analysis
