Galina Ustvolskaya and Orest Yevlakhov, who, in turn, were students of Dmitry Shostakovich. He is a successor to the tradition of the Saint Petersburg school of composition; he also appeals to its roots and origins. He is a modern classic, who went down in the history of the Russian theatre and cinema (the end of the 20th - beginning of the 21st century); he wrote music for numerous theatre productions and feature films; he feels the drama better than anyone else. His music always has some action; it is theatrical in the best possible meaning of this word. It matches the meaning, the plot and the visuals harmoniously; it actually makes the visuals even brighter. Sergei Banevich wrote music for such films, as "Nicolo Paganini", "Last Will of Professor Dowell", "Flight 222", "The Pickwick Club", "Mole", "Kuka", "Two W omen", etc. He is also the author of such wonderful operas, as "A Lone White Sail", "Ferdinand The Splendid", "A T own In The Snuf f - Box", "The Little Prince", "T welve Months", operettas "Treasure Island" and "The Drummer's Fate", musicals "The Staunch Tin Soldier", "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" and "Little Mermaid" and the musical performance "The Children's World". It seems like his songs "April" and "The Sun Will Wake Up" were sung by all the children of the country, and the song "Endless Road" from the film "Nicolo Paganini" was sung by all adults. He graduated from the Urals State Conservatoire and was the director of the Chelyabinsk Opera and Ballet Theatre for five years; at the moment he is working as a conductor at the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Moscow Academic Music Theatre. Maestro Grishanin also cooperates with the Bolshoi Theatre, the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre, the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the National Philharmonic of Russia. Victoria Tennant, actress, and daughter of prima ballerina Irina Baronova, is launching a book on her late mother this December at the Royal Academy of Dance. She was also Vice President of the RAD and was honoured with the QEII Coronation Award in 1996. Drawing on rare photographs, letters correspondence, oral histories and interviews, Baronova's daughter, V ictoria Tennant warmly recounts Baronova's dramatic life. "My friend Irina Baronova was a legendary Baby Ballerina of the Ballets Russes and an ambassador of classical ballet in America, but this book shows us the kind, funny, and hardworking woman behind the legend. She was a total pro and an elegant human being. If it's possible, I'm more in awe than ever." Mikhail Baryshnikov "As a dancer myself, I connected deeply to Baronova's words about what it's like to feel in your soul the extremes of sacrifice, familial rivalry, and tremendous love that come from committing oneself to the art form. I really couldn't put this book down. I was in tears." W endy Whelan, New York City Ballet US Publication Date: November 17, 2014 UK Publication Date: November 24, 2014 In the 1930s and '40s, the Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo toured the United States and the world, introducing many to ballet as an art form, while spreading the enduring image of the ballerina as an embodiment of feminine grace and sophistication. This sumptuous, illustrated history tells the story of the rise of modern ballet and its popularity through the lushly photographed life story of one of ballet's most glamorous stars, Irina Baronova (1919 - 2008), prima ballerina for the Ballets Russes de Monte Carlo and later for Ballet Theatre in New York. D ra w in g on ra re photo gra phs, le tte rs, co rre sp ondence, ora l his to rie s, and interviews, Baronova's daughter, the actress Victoria Tennant, warmly recounts Baronova's dramatic life, from her earliest aspirations to her grueling time on tour to her later years in Australia as a pioneer of the art. She begins with the Baronov family's flight from Russia during the Revolution, which led them eventually to Paris, where at the age of thirteen, Baronova became a star, chosen by the legendary George Balanchine to join the Ballets Russes. Tennant provides an intimate account of Baronova's life as a dancer and rare behind-the-scenes stories of life on the road with the stars of the company. The story of Irina Baronova is also the story of the rise of ballet thanks to the Ballets Russes, who brought the magisterial beauty and star power of dance to big cities and small towns alike. V ictoria Tennant played the title role in her first film, The Ragman's Daughter, in 1972, and she has since then gone on to work in film, television, theater, and radio, receiving Emmy and Golden Globe nominations. She lives in Los Angeles. News From Partners Newsletter

Kalyagin and Urin will come to Kirov in the mid-December to receive their awards The famous actor Alexander Kalyagin and the Bolshoi Theatre General Director Vladimir Urin will come to Kirov in order to receive memorial awards. According to the news weekly "Novy Variant", the award ceremony will take place in the mid- December when the Day of the Kirov Oblast is celebrated. On November 26th 2014 our famous fellow countrymen received the title of honorary citizens of the Kirov Oblast. This decision was approved at the meeting of the committee on legislation and local government of the Kirov Oblast Legislative Assembly. Alexander Kalyagin was born in 1942 in Malmyzh. His candidacy for the title of an honorary citizen of the Kirov Oblast was suggested by the Vyatskopolyanskaya Children's School of Theatre Art named after Kalyagin. Vladimir Urin was born in Kirov in 1947; he finished school and college there, and later graduated from the stage directors' department of the Leningrad State Institute of Culture named after Krupskaya. Roman Abramovich fell in love with ballet Chelsea FC is in big danger. Its owner, who has had the club for more than ten years and has invested more than a million dollars into it, has found a new passion. Roman Abramovich has become a devoted ballet fan. T oday the 48-year old billionaire is not such a big fan of the London club footballers; he is rather a huge fan of ballerinas that dance at the largest theatres in Russia - Svetlana Zakharova and Olga Smirnova from the Bolshoi Theatre and Diana V ishneva from the Mariinsky Theatre. The Russian oligarch developed this passion for ballet two years ago, when he joined the Bolshoi Theatre's Board of Trustees. This privilege costs him a quarter million dollars each year. These days he rarely misses premieres at "his" theatre. Besides, he likes to go see the same ballet production several times in order to be able to compare performances of dif ferent dancers and ballerinas. Naturally, Roman Abramovich could not miss the Bolshoi Ballet's tour in London last year. This year together with a group of friends he has flown to Singapore by his private Boeing 767 to watch the company's performances. In an interview with the Sunday T imes one of the Bolshoi Theatre's sources said : "Being a newcomer, he likes everything, from classics to modern dance. Perhaps, this is a trait of his character, but when he is keen on something, he tries to learn everything about it. He always takes a seat in the box near the stage, because he likes to take a close look at everything. At the same time, he is always very modest and tries not to disclose his presence". "Spartacus" is Roman Abramovich's favorite ballet. He often goes backstage to talk to ballerinas and discusses productions with directors via phone. He is almost always accompanied by Darya Zhukova, a big fan of art, who has cultivated his love for painting. December, 3 2014 Newsletter
