"A Legend of Love " is back at the Bolshoi The gala concert "Opera Ball", marking the 75th anniversary of the outstanding singer Elena Obraztsova will take place on the Bolshoi Theatre's Historic Stage on October 28th The laureates of the 12th season of the literary award "Y asnaya Polyana" were announced at the Bolshoi Theatre Beethoven Hall Facebook: An additional performance of the ballet "A Legend of Love " will take place on November 5th November 5th - 9th - premiere performances of the ballet " A Legend of Love " October 24th - debuts in the opera " La Sonnambula " Filippo Adami makes his debut at the Bolshoi with the part of Elvino Laura Claycomb performed the main role Historic Stage - rehearsal day New Stage - rehearsal day The opening night cast starred Anna Nikulina as Shireen and Denis Rodkin as Ferkhad. Photo: Damir Y usupov between two sisters who are both in love with him, and finding water for the people, was doomed to success. It suited the official ideology of the supremacy of the communal over the personal very well; at the same time it calmed the audience with its graceful love collision. The thick eastern color made its contribution as well: the libretto was written by the Turkish poet Nazym Hikmet and was based on his play and the ancient Persian legend, the music was composed by the Azerbaijani composer Arif Melikov, the set was designed by the great magician Simon Virsaladze. The choreography suited this setting very well; there were various positions, based on the eastern calligraphy, the delight of the female dance at the harem and the rashness of the chase. A few of the people most inclined to faultfinding noticed that this dance was somewhat similar to what Kasyan Goleizovsky did in "Leila and Medjun" a year earlier. Anyway, it was "A Legend of love" that became triumphant; it also remained a legend. This happened largely due to the fact that the bright production that tells the story of mulit-faceted love, always starred great artists. In Leningrad there were the breathtaking beauties Olga Moiseeva, Inna Zubkovskaya and Alla Osipenko. In Moscow there was Maya Plisetskaya and Maris Liepa. The Bolshoi's ballerina Svetlana Adyrkhaeva created a model image of the main female character; today she is rehearsing this part with Ekaterina Krysanova, the new Mekhmene Banu. Ulyana Lopatkina used to dance this part at the Mariinsky Theatre, and her fans cried at the premiere and did not try to hide their tears. This time the Bolshoi presents several casts; Svetlana Zakharova, who is in her best shape, is ready to make her voice heard. The conclusion: today's version of "A Legend of Love", which does not claim to be some kind of a new interpretation, will make ballet fans who love this performing art form, very happy. Perhaps, this is enough. "A Legend of Love" is back at the Bolshoi Svetlana Zakharova and Denis Rodkin. Photo: Damir Yusupov "A Legend of Love", one of Yuri Grigorovich's most famous ballets, which has already become one of the 20th century classics, is back on the main stage of the country. The audience has a chance to enjoy the eastern colors of the set and special plastique of the choreography. The theatre's administration promises that other landmark ballet will soon be brought back to the Bolshoi's stage as well. When you look at the bright costumes, which were re-created based on the sketches by Simon Virsaladze, the dynamic and light of the dance, you are totally immersed in the atmosphere of the "1000 and 1 nights" fairy-tales and do not think of what it has cost the artists. "A Legend of Love" has been a symbol of the Bolshoi for a long time, just like "Swan Lake". The very first cast starred Maya Plisetskaya as the Queen and Natalia Bessmertnova as her sister Shireen. They both are in love with the handsome Ferkhad (Maris Liepa). The theatre's new administration decided to re-create all ballets that have become Bolshoi trademarks long ago. The first step has been made. NTV reporter Alexei Ivliev reports that this is the ninth version of "A Legend of Love" by Yuri Grigorovich, and the third version that has been presented at the Bolshoi Theatre. The Maestro organized very strict auditions that not everyone managed to get through. The ballet was made a bit shorter and much more dynamic. Regardless of his age, Yuri Grigorovich did not miss a single rehearsal. It looks like he had enough time to work not with each soloist, but also with each corps de ballet artist; he demanded good acting and a finished performance. Quote of the day: Galina Vishnevskaya The famous opera singer compared her life with a series of dramatic challenges but said there had always been a place for good luck that had saved her. October 25th is a significant date for opera fans all over the world. Galina V ishnevskaya, the famous Soviet and Russian opera singer, would have turned 88 years old on this day. She was called the trump card in the Bolshoi's deck of cards. Vishnevskaya became one of the first famous artists that were famous and loved not only in their native country, but also far beyond the borders of the Soviet Union. Newsletter

October, 27 2014 Mass media about the Theatre In interviews and biographical books Galina P. V ishnevskaya insisted that she did not want people to consider her to be some capricious opera diva who did not have to make a single effort to get everything she wanted. She paid a high price for her success, and she had to overcome dramatic challenges. Galina was brought up by her grandmother; her father left the family (according to another version, he was repressed), and her mother left her when the girl was only six weeks old. The future opera star survived the blockade of Leningrad: the 16-year old girl served in the air defense forces. In 1970s Vishnevskaya and her husband Mstislav Rostropovich, a musician and a conductor, were ostracized for their political beliefs and had to leave the country for more than 15 years. Galina Vishnevskaya considered that no matter what happened, a strong person will not break, and overcoming challenges hardens the willpower. The opera diva also believed that only weak-minded and lazy people could pity themselves or program themselves for the worst. "The main thing is not to give in to desperation". A ward for clarity The laureates of the 12th season of the literary award "Yasnaya Polyana" were announced at the Bolshoi Theatre Beethoven Hall on October 21st. Awards were given out in three categories. More than 150 large form pieces, written in the tradition of the Tolstoy's prose, using the classical Russian language and having no post-modernist pursuit, participated in the competition. Photo: Katerina Novikova The ceremony started with a surprise: the soloists of the Bolshoi Theatre Symphony Orchestra performed a little known music piece by Leo Tolstoy - a waltz. The ceremony was hosted by Vladimir Tolstoy, a cultural adviser to the Russian President and the head of the "Yasnaya Polyana" Award jury, and Fekla Tolstaya, the radio and TV host. The list of honorary guests included the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Vladimir Medinsky, South Korean Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Russian Federation Vee Son Lak and Samsung Electronics CEO for CIS countries Steve Lee. Mr. Medinsky stressed the particular educational value of this event: "It is not a secret that people do not read much these days. According to experts, one third of the Russian citizens do not read at all. There is the same tendency in Europe. There are dif ferent explanations for this fact, but there are no excuses. Even the most wonderful films implant ready images into our minds, and only a book allows us to finish constructing and sometimes even to rethink the author's idea. As one of the Hollywood Oscar-winning directors said, a book is the best film, and the human's brain is the best cinema. Naturally, the award, based on Tolstoy's traditions, contributes to bringing reading back into our world". The jury was composed of the critic and literary historian Lev Anninsky, writer and critic Igor Zolotussky, publicist Valentin Kurbatov, critic Pavel Basinsky, prose-writer and 20th century Russian literature researcher Alexei Valamov, and the writer and essayist Vladislav Otroshenko. Vladimir Tolstoy admitted: "I am very nervous on this day. Of course, there will be prizes, flowers and ovations. But there always are some people whose names were included in the short list, but who did not receive an award. All authors that are mentioned today represent great modern Russian literature. Each of them deserves to be read". The Grand Prix - 900 thousand rubles (approx. $ 21, 418) in the nomination category "Modern Classics" - was given to the prose-writer, publicist and a bright representative of the "village prose" Boris Ekimov for the novel "Pinochet", which was written in 1999. Half-drunk fellow villagers called the chairman of the collective farm, who tried to make some order with an iron fist, the name of the Chilean dictator. 15 years ago this novel caused confusion: "Ekimov puts a stake on Pinochet", the newspaper headlines said. Although this was not the main idea. Varlamov noticed: "He managed to understand both sides: a person, who most of all tried to stop the devastation that hit the village, and his oppressors. The key idea of the novel is cordiality and living according to one's conscience; this is a landmark idea for the Russian village prose".
